First Class 345, 385 and 707 units delivered

South West Trains, ScotRail and Crossrail prepare for the introduction of new stock.

The first of Siemens’ new ‘Desiro City’ EMUs for South West Trains, No. 707001, reached the UK in early December and was collected from Dollands Moor by Nos. 37884+37800 on December 8 and moved as the 6X88/23.45 Dollands Moor-Clapham Yard.

Hitachi EMU No. 385102 stands inside Shields depot, Glasgow, on December 11. The first of 70 such units being built for ScotRail, it had been hauled north from Hitachi’s plant at Newton Aycliffe on December 9 by DB Cargo’s No. 67015. ScotRail

The morning of December 23 saw Nos. 707003/004 also arrive at Clapham from Dollands Moor behind Nos. 56098 and 56104 after an overnight move from the Kent yard.

Commissioning and final testing will be undertaken at Clapham. Over the next 12 months, 30 Class 707 units will be delivered, and it is anticipated that the first units will enter service in April, initially on the Waterloo-Windsor route.
