More ‘700s’ introduced on Thameslink

Class 377 and 387 units are displaced as more Siemens-built ‘Desiro City’ sets enter service.

THE number of weekday Class 700 diagrams on Thameslink was increased to 26 during February, comprising 15 Class 700/0 and 11 Class 700/1. Over 30 units are now in service.

January 25 saw the final delivery of the month take place, No. 700039 being moved by No. 66751 Inspiration Delivered as the 6X70/03.14 Dollands Moor-Three Bridges.

February deliveries began with
No. 700037, which arrived at Three Bridges from Dollands Moor behind No. 66757 West Somerset Railway on February 1.

It was followed by No. 700025 five days later, the same loco being provided for its transfer as the 6X70/03.07 Dollands Moor-Three Bridges. The loco was used again on February 8, delivering No. 700040 to Three Bridges, and then on February 15 with No. 700038. Further units entered revenue earning service in February, the first being Nos. 700020/031, which were followed by No. 700039.

The first appearance of a Class 700 at Littlehampton took place in the early hours of February 7, when No. 700030 arrived on a test run (the 3Z01/23.45 Three Bridges-Littlehampton via Arundel), returning via Preston Park as the 3Z02/02.58 Littlehampton-Three Bridges.
