Caledonian Sleepers considers expanding

THE popularity of Caledonian Sleeper services for tourists visiting the Highlands has prompted a review on the extension of routes to serve Oban and the Far North line.

GBRf’s re-engineered Class 73s have now begun to take over the Fort William portion of the overnight Euston sleeper, although DBS ’67s’ are still working on occasions while the ’73s’ bed down. May 24 saw No. 73968 work through to Fort William; this loco’s first visit to the town and the second solo visit of the type – other trips being in tandem with a ’67’. John Tomlin
Any decision made will be dependent on support payments from Transport Scotland to reflect the wider economic benefit.
