DRS gathers in its ‘new’ Class 37/4s
By: Web Editor
Following the purchase by Direct Rail Services of a number of DB Schenker-owned stored Class 37/4s, arrangments were put in place to start moving them to either Barrow Hill ,where Harry Needle Railroad Company was due to start repairing them (Nos. 37419 and 37425), or to DRS’ Carlisle Kingmoor depot for assessment (Nos. 37411, 37416, 37417, 37422 and 37427.
As RAILEXPRESS closed for press, four more were awaiting movement (Nos. 37401, 37406, 37410 and 37426) while Nos. 37402 and 37405 appeared earmarked for spares recovery and scrapping. Full details and a status list can be found in Power by the Hour on page 46. Destined for Kingmoor depot for assessment on August 25 were Nos. 37417, 37411 and 37416, making the long trek north from Eastleigh. Nearing the end of their journey, the three Type 3s head up the incline at Greenholme behind Class 67 No. 67008. Notably, both Nos. 37411 and 37417 still retained their nameplates, the latter on one side only.
