Hopes raised for Bombardier for Crossrail contract
By: RAIL EXPRESS
The DfT has changed its specification for the new trains planned for the Crossrail contract, improving the chance that Derby-based Bombardier could win the £1 billion deal.

It has come to light that the £1bn order for trains which will use the new Crossrail route when built will differ in detail from the Thameslink order which, of course, was awarded to Siemens. It had previously been thought that both train sets would be identical, therefore favouring the same manufacturer with resultant economies of scale and thus cheaper cost.
However, there are now to be varying differences which means that the odds move away and possibly favour an alternative manufacturer. Besides, Bombardier and Siemens, Hitachi of Japan and CAF of Spain have been shortlisted to be invited to tender.
