Hornby’s announcements will be available on the RAIL EXPRESS Modeller website on January 3, but for now here is a quick look at the new NMT Class 43s.

NR New Measurement Train power cars released as Hornby gets set to reveal 2012 range

EVER since Hornby revealed its intention to produce the buffer-fitted former surrogate DVT variant of the HST power car, there has been a large number of requests for the striking yellow Network Rail New Measurement Train examples, Nos. 43013 & 43014, to join the catalogue (R2984). The two power cars were announced at last year’s press conference and just in time for Christmas they are now being stocked by retailers.

We present these two views of the pre-production paint samples. They show the new tooling for the distinctive camera box, which sits on the nose of both power cars, as well as the revised headlight clusters and latest Brush style twin cooler groups. There are also slight variations in the lettering applied to both Class 43s. The red bufferbeams and lack of top headlight date the pair to around the 2009-2010 period.

These will join the already released twin pack R4457, composed of representations of Mk. 3 generator coach No. 977995 and the hybrid battery coach No. 977996. The shell of the latter vehicle, somewhat ironically, now belongs to Bachmann and has been repainted Southern green and sits at Barwell!
