THE start of the new eight-year West Midlands franchise, which took over from London Midland on December 10, saw the launch of new West Midlands Railway (WMR) and London Northwestern Railway (LNR) brands by West Midlands Trains – a joint venture between Abellio, JR East and Mitsui.
The LNR brand was unveiled on Class 350 ‘Desiro’ No. 350373 at Northampton Kings Heath depot on December 11. There it was confirmed that the Class 350/2 sub-class is to be removed from West Coast services for a yet to be finalised destination. These will be partly replaced by the new build ‘Aventra’ EMUs from Bombardier, but also the transfer in of the 10 Class 350/4s from TransPennine Express.
