Arlington becomes new home for charter set

Riviera Mk.1 set is now based at Eastleigh Works.

RIVIERA Trains’ Mk.1 rake of coaching stock left Arriva Traincare’s Eastleigh TMD in January for a new base ‘over the road’ at Arlington Fleet Services’ Eastleigh Works site.

Type 5 No. 66066 brings the last 10 of Riviera Trains’ coaches into Eastleigh Works on January 26 following the company’s switch from using the nearby Eastleigh depot. Carl Watson

To facilitate the new arrivals and enable servicing to be carried out, some changes have been made to the track layout within the works.

Eastleigh depot had been Riviera Trains’ southern operating centre since the closure of Old Oak Common in 2009. This is the second change of base to occur in the past 18 months – in late 2015, the firm’s stock based in the north was moved from Crewe Diesel Depot to Nemesis Rail at Burton after the takeover of the Crewe site by Locomotive Services Ltd.

Riviera’s coaches are no strangers to Eastleigh Works, with several having visited in recent years to have work carried out. Nos. 1657 and 3119 were already there at the start of January for overhaul, while No. 3097 was still present after its overhaul was completed in December – it being repainted into chocolate/cream colours having previously worn ‘blood and custard’ livery for several years.
