This extra year has allowed work to proceed rapidly on the two-car Super Sprinter, to the extent that Realtrack was able to show off fully functional but hand-painted pre-production samples at the NEC event. With work so well advanced, the company is currently planning to release the first batch of models at the end of May 2017, this notably coming in the 30th anniversary year for the Class 156s.

Building on the superb quality of the previous Class 143 and Class 144 models, Realtrack is promising a further step up in the specification of the models. The cornerstone of this is a new low-profile mechanism that has been developed so that it does not intrude above window level or into the underframe equipment, thereby allowing a high level of detail in both areas. Both cars will be motorised, these driving the inner bogies only.
