Oxford expands D&E rolling stock

Two new wagons have been announced, while the range of liveries on the new Mk.3 coaches has also increased.

THE London Toy Fair at the end of January saw Oxford Rail announce the first items in its 2017 range of ‘OO’ gauge models.

As is the norm for the company, this will be the first of three announcements this year, the others taking place in late spring and the autumn, although they will not all necessarily contain D&E era items.

Two new wagons of relevance to D&E modellers are included in the latest catalogue, these being the Ministry of Defence Warwell and the 35t GLW Class A and Class B tankers, as pioneered by Esso but also later utilised by other companies.

Work on both models is well advanced with pre-production versions of the initial Warwell variants on show, while first samples of the tankers were due just after the event. With both subjects selected by Oxford some time ago to form a strategic part of its future plans, and with both already tooled, the company intends to press ahead with the two wagons despite the competing models from Hattons and Heljan.

The initial Warwells are currently planned for release in late spring/early summer and will cover the as-built appearance with diamond frame bogies. Priced £29.95, the launch liveries feature BR bauxite with other versions due in the second half of the year, including ones loaded with a Sherman tank and a steam roller at £39.95 each. Pictured here are two versions of the wagon, with and without lashing eyes in the deck.
