Locomotion in Shildon, County Durham is to undertake the museum’s biggest ever rail shunt to create Europe’s largest undercover display of historic rail vehicles.
A trail-blazing seaside railway, a restored Victorian express locomotive and a new-build engine lus a whole fleet of historic coal wagons were among the big winners at the Heritage Railway Association Annual Awards 2024, sponsored by Inspire Structures, and held in the Double Tree by Hilton Metropole Hotel in Brighton on February 10.
Flying Scotsman was involved in a “slow speed” crash with another heritage train hours before visitors were due to board it. The crash happened at Aviemore Railway Station, in the Cairngorms, Scottish Highlands, at 7.10pm on Friday.
Rail passengers will suffer fresh misery on Saturday because of strikes by train drivers, with more industrial action planned in the coming weeks amid the worsening disputes over jobs, pay and conditions.
