The Government’s decision to give Avanti West Coast a short-term contract renewal is a “slap in the face”, according to the train drivers’ union.
Avanti West Coast should be stripped of its contract unless axed services are reinstated soon, Greater Manchester mayor Andy Burnham said.
Only about 20% of normal train services will run on Saturday due to another strike by workers, Network Rail said.
The contract with the firm running the Caledonian Sleeper will end in June of next year, the Scottish Government has said, with a senior SNP MSP claiming there is an “opportunity” for public ownership.
