A Swanage Railway volunteer who travelled on the last British Rail train from Swanage to Wareham as a child in 1972 will be the conductor driver on the first Swanage Railway passenger train into Wareham using the heritage line’s 1950s diesel train.
The Swanage Railway is to operate a trial heritage diesel train service from the main line at Wareham into the heart of the Isle of Purbeck.
Another high-profile guest announced has been announced for the Severn Valley Railway’s bumper Spring Diesel Festival.
The Severn Valley Railway has revealed that Class 58 No 58023 will make its first-ever appearance in preservation at the SVR’s forthcoming Spring Diesel Festival between 18th and 21st May.
The railway’s summit service will recommence and Hafod Eryri, the summit visitor center, will reopen later this year.
To celebrate 70 years of the British Railways’ English Electric diesel electric shunters (later designated Class 08) we present a selection of images of these heroic machines.
